5 Simple Tips to Maintain a Healthy Weight, by Dr. Dirk Johns

Losing weight is one thing – maintaining it can be another challenge. We know you work hard to lose extra weight and to get your desired physique. However, your hard work doesn’t stop here. Once you’ve lost the weight, the next step is to maintain your healthy weight. Maintaining a healthy weight really comes down to a common sense approach and subtly shifting the way you view food.

Today we’re going to cover 5 simple tips to keep your weight off, as proposed by renowned weight loss expert Dr. Dirk Johns

1) Don’t starve yourself:

Consuming fewer calories than you should actually have in a day is a big reason for overeating later in the day. You might have followed a strict diet that limited the number of calories you consumed, but once you’ve achieved your weight goal, it’ll be next to impossible to maintain that level of commitment. Don’t allow yourself to get to the level where you feel like you’re starving. If you let yourself go too hungry, every healthy eating tip you’ve ever read will become hard to remember. You may even get cravings for something unhealthy, like extra-large double-cheese pizza with a milkshake chaser. That’s why it’s important to never put yourself in a starving mode.

2) Treat yourself in small doses:

If you love chocolate ice cream, but you’ve vowed to swear off of it for good, at some point that self-imposed ice cream prohibition is going to cause a lot of problems. The longer you go without allowing yourself to eat what you like, the greater the risk of breaking down at some point. You do not have to keep yourself from the treats, everything is OK in moderation. The point here is to never feel like you can’t have something – because we all know that eventually, we all want what we can’t have.

3) Eat less food, more often:

To avoid feeling deprived you need to eat less food, more often. Consuming less meals in a day doesn’t work for everyone. However, if you want to avoid the feeling of starvation all day, then splitting your meals is a great habit. Eating five or even six smaller meals a day can really make a big difference in your energy level. Larger, heavy meals are always harder to digest. These heavy meals can often leave you feeling inactive. On the other hand, splitting your meals into a number of smaller meals (5-6 times) will make you feel lighter all day.

4) Snack smarter:

We all have a snack sometimes and that isn’t a bad thing. It’s the snack choices that can get you into trouble. When you’re tired or frustrated, it’s easy to reach for comfort snacks. We always come across people who take the support of ice cream or cakes whenever they feel tired or frustrated. But what your body needs in such a situation is fuel to re-energize, not something that offers no nutritional value.

5) Stay hydrated:

Sometimes what feels like hunger can actually be thirst in disguise. Always make sure you’re adequately hydrated before you give in to a snack attack. The goal to keep yourself hydrated on a busy day can easily slip from your mind. Drinking enough water is a great way to avoid eating when you’re not really hungry at all. So, staying hydrated is a must to maintain a healthy weight.

These tips should definitely contribute in a major way toward maintaining a healthy weight. Apart from this, Dr. Drik Johns, a weight loss expert from New England Fat Loss in MA, will help you ease the challenges of weight loss and maintain a healthy weight.
